Ashdown Junction 00 Layout Last updated 09/02/2012

Ashdown Junction is the main 00 scale (4mm) layout owned and exhibited by AHRS. Overall size is about 23ft x 10.5ft, built in easily handled sections for storage as there is no space to assemble the full layout except on club nights. For the same reason, some scenery, buildings and other finer details are added only for exhibitions.

The Club has operated and exhibited an "Ashdown Junction" layout for over 30 years although, like the 100-year old broom with 6 heads and 5 handles, constant updating and replacement has left little or nothing of the original.

Most recently, one end of the layout was completely replaced with a new viaduct, canal and quarry scene. Click here for construction photos.

Trackwork is mainly PECO to Code 100 standard. This allows members to run almost any type of stock from scale wheeled kits to ready to run items produced up to 25 or more years ago. At exhibitions we normally display an "eclectic mix" of Modern Image stock (Blue/Grey to current scene) with preserved steam specials.

Layout Plan

At the front of the layout is a small Diesel Depot with refuelling point and 2-road maintenance shed, bounded front and back by a busy Main Line and a singled Branch. This Depot was built on the site of a former Steam Shed, and the remains of this, including the turntable and coaling stage, are in the hands of a steam Preservation Society.

More recent images of this layout can be viewed on the AHRS at Exhibitions page.
